First full construction day a success

First full day of construction on the Mant Farm completed.  Thanks to everyone who came out and busted their humps all day today, couldn’t have done it without you!

Work today consisted of constructing Facade Side A (tunnel section):

  • chalk lined where scaffolding will be
  • marked out where all grommets go
  • marked out where to cut tunnels
  • rolled glue over all tunnel lines
  • glued patches of canvas to all grommet locations
  • cut out tunnel sections
  • set a bunch of grommets (not all yet)
  • utility knife surgery
  • applied 2 layers of old salmon fish net to facade
  • attached fish net with ring tool (not done)
  • framed entire facade in rope including 2 vertical members (this is for keeping the shape constrained)
  • rolled, folded and stuffed into my car…

Mant Farm the poem

Alaina J. Garrie wrote this mantastic poem about Mant Farm tonight at the first Thursday Art Walk!  check out her work:  http://freebirdpoetry.blogspot.com

“Mant Farm – I call it the human ant farm

She calls it New York / cement / concrete journal

I say, she’s missing it,

all those men, walking around, smiling, all those helping hands – a flesh jungle

I say – in smile and bone and sweat – togetherness I say

We are  A jungle of panthers and owls covering sidewalks with our swagger.

You and me we live, HERE, look up!”
